Book Tour: The Half Breed by Bobbi Smith

Today I’m happy to have Bobbi Smith on my blog sharing her book, The Half Breed. Be sure to read all the way to the bottom and get into her book tour drawing for an Amazon gift card.

Now… Here’s Bobbi…

Hi everybody!

Thanks for having me on Dena’s blog. I’m Bobbi Smith and I published my first book, Rapture’s Rage, back in 1982. Since then I’ve written 46 books and six novellas. What fun and what a wonderful career!

Back before eBooks took over, I used to do a lot of book tours with my good friends Constance O’Banyon, Elaine Barbieri and Evelyn Rogers. It was on one of these tours, sitting in the car driving for hours, that we came up with the idea to do a series together, and so the Secret Fires series was born.  The storyline we agreed on was: the cruel, domineering father learns he’s dying and demands that all his alienated children return home.  Elaine went first with The Wild One, I was next with The Half-Breed, then Constance O’Banyon did The Agreement and Evelyn Rogers finished with The Loner. It wasn’t easy coordinating all the stories, but we did it! And I’m honored to say The Half-Breed is the book that put me on the New York Times bestseller List!

My heroes are always the inspiration for my stories. I loved writing about Tom McBride’s half-breed, illegitimate son, Chase. Chase grew up with his Indian mother, and when she’s dying, he comes to the ranch to get Tom because she wants to see him one last time. Hard-hearted Tom throws Chase off the ranch and tells him never to come back. Chase vows from that point on never to have anything to do with his father again. As our story opens, Chase—now a Texas Ranger—receives a letter from his father’s attorney directing him to return to the ranch. Chase has no intention of going back, until he learns the outlaw gang he’s tracking might have connections in town there. Of course, there’s the heroine, too! Chase saves her after she manages to escape from the Comanche raiding party that attacked her family’s ranch and took her captive. I love heroes who can overcome all the difficulties they face and still save the day! That’s what heroes do!

About the Book:

In the midst of the vast, windswept Texas plains stands a ranch wrested from the wilderness with blood, sweat and tears. It is the shining legacy of Thomas McBride to his five living heirs. But along with the fertile acres and herds of cattle, each will inherit a history of scandal, lies and hidden desire that threatens to burn out of control.

Chase knows he has no legitimate claim to the Circle M. After all, his father made it painfully clear he wants nothing to do with his bastard son or the Comanche girl he once took to his bed. But Chase has his own reasons for answering Tom McBride’s deathbed summons. He has a job to do as a Texas Ranger, and a woman to protect—a woman whose sweet innocence gives him new faith that love born in the darkest night can face the dawn of all his tomorrows.

Chase was ready for trouble and trouble was exactly what he got when he snared the would-be horse thief around the waist.  The thief put up a fierce struggle, but only when Chase heard the scream did he realize he was dealing with a woman!

“Hold still!”  he commanded.

Fighting with all her strength, it took Faith a moment to realize he’d spoken English.  Only when she was slammed back against the solid, hard-muscled width of his chest and held pinned there, did she become aware that this was no ordinary renegade.

“Damn it woman!  I said hold still!”  Chase groundout, wondering how this golden-haired wildcat of a woman had ended up in his camp trying to steal his horse in the middle of the night.

He looked down at her as she finally stilled in his arms.  Only now did he notice that her blouse was torn and her pale flesh was bared to his gaze.  She was filthy and there were bruises evident upon her flesh.  They were a silent testimony to abuse she’d suffered.  He wondered who she was and what had happened to bring her to him.
