New Release: Guicai Talisman by A.M. Griffin

Power of Words

Today I’m excited to have the delightful A.M. Griffin as my guest. She has an awesome new urban fantasy and I’m thrilled to be able to help her get the word out. But first, let me introduce her by way of a quick interview…

For the readers who haven’t had the pleasure of meeting you yet, tell us a little about yourself.

Hi everyone *waves*. I’m A.M. Griffin and for those who don’t know me I write sci-fi erotica, paranormal romance, urban fantasy, contemporary romance and yes, young adult too. Whew. I cross over a lot of genres because I write what calls to me. I’m a mom, wife and fur baby mom. If we’re Facebook friends or if you follow me on Twitter you can catch me talking about all that often. And if we’re connected on social media you can also catch me talking about my love for Idris Elba (I do so love that man).

What is your favorite book?

What defines a favorite book to me are the books that I have on my bookshelf that I can take out and re-read over and over again. I have re-read the Twilight books and Harry Potter I think going on 3 or 4 times now. My go to re-reads or anything by Johanna Lindsey. To me those are the romance classics. I love getting lost in her world.

Tell us about Babylonia Jones and what you like most about her?

Babylonia Jones is a half-breed; half-human and half-paranormal and she feels that she really doesn’t fit into either world comfortably. She has the ability to communicate with animals and plants sing and grow for her and the Wind talks to her. Her mom has kept her very shielded in the human world, feeling that people would hurt her because she is so different. When she found the paranormal world, called The Undercity, she thought she would be welcomed with open arms. She wasn’t. They feel that she isn’t really one of them. Besides her Vampire best friend, Melia, her ex-x boyfriend who is a Demi-God and Vampire her love interest, she is on her own. As a P.I. she will take the cases that the other P.I. firms won’t in order to prove that she is just as strong and smart as the other paranormals. Her desire to prove herself often leads her head first into danger. The series follows her as she finds her purpose in life and her purpose in The Undercity.

What was the inspiration for this new urban fantasy?

I was at a conference a couple of years ago and saw a flyer sitting on a table. The flyer was of this tall and statuesque African-American woman who looked totally bad-ass. I just saw this woman and thought there was more to her story. I sent her picture to a few author friends, told them the background that I made up for her and asked for names and from that moment Babylonia Jones was born. I still keep that flyer above my writing desk.

What’s next for you?

Hopefully this is just the beginning for Babylonia Jones. I have so many stories to tell her. This year I’ll release 4 of them consecutively and next year I’ll write even more. I keep an Excel sheet of all the story ideas that I have lined up and the ideas keep on flowing! Of course I’ll continue to write other stories in my other series as well. So in the future you can expect many more books and many more adventures!

GuicaiTalismanCoverBlurb:

What does a woman have to do to prove she belongs in the Undercity? Sure, I’m unclassed and only half paranormal, but that doesn’t mean I can’t solve cases. Since the established PI’s won’t acknowledge my right to a territory, I’m taking jobs from whoever will hire me, doing what I do best…proving myself to be a bad-ass problem solver. Which is how I find myself breaking into Zaid’s house, looking for a talisman my witch client says the very powerful vampire stole.

Now, I can make flowers grow, hear the wind’s whispers and talk to animals, but I don’t have the gift of seeing the future. If I did, I’d have known not to take this case. Because no matter the outcome, nothing good can come from messing with the Guicai Talisman, or it’s far too gorgeous guardian.

Excerpt:

Zaid finally sauntered out of the club.

There he is.

He looked the same as he did on the previous nights I’d watched him; tall, about six-foot-two, nice sleek body covered in an expensive suit that I guessed was tailored to fit only him. He was lean, but by no means skinny. His shoulders were broad and the few times I’d seen him without a jacket I noticed he had well-defined muscles in his arms and pecs. The cinched belt around his narrow waist highlighted a flat stomach and showed off a nicely formed ass—yes, on a couple of occasions, while I was cataloguing his looks, I did let my eyes linger on his ass, which was a very nice one, round and firm. The kind of ass a girl could take a nice bite out of.

My mouth salivated at the thought of doing just that. Not a for real bite, but a nice little playful nip. I’m sure he’d appreciate that. To hear Melia tell it, Vampires were into some pretty kinky stuff.

I shook my head.

Get your mind out the gutter and back on the target Baby D.

I snapped back to attention and put my hormones in check. Raging hormones plagued me ever since I took this job, but it’s an expected hazard. Vampires had something in their makeup that made women and men want to fall at their feet. Dealing with Vampires isn’t like how it’s portrayed in the Hollywood movies, where terrorized people run kicking and screaming away from them. No. In reality people go to them willingly.

Case in point, there were two creamy-skinned blondes, one on each of Zaid’s arms. Arm in arm, they walked along the red carpet that led to valet parking. To me the women looked like the cookie cutter versions of the women he’d taken home last night and the night before that; they were all pale, tall, blonde, gorgeous and wore tight clothes. These two had on dresses so short I could see the bottom of their butts hanging out as they walked.

“Have some pride ladies,” I muttered to myself. “Didn’t your momma ever tell you that your dress should be longer than your vagina?”

Zaid stopped at the curb and looked from left to right. I didn’t bother ducking past the rim of the cement rooftop barrier. Even with his great eyesight he couldn’t see me nestled on the rooftop more than a block from where he was, scoping him out with my high-powered binoculars. And, even with his sensitive hearing, he definitely couldn’t hear me talking to myself. There were too many other distractions between us for him to even get a lock on my location. Plus, he didn’t know he was being watched anyway—why would he be looking for me?

He was probably trying to figure out if any Witches were in the area. Vampires could sniff out Witches and, while they weren’t scared of them, usually tried to avoid them. And if he did have Tina’s talisman I’m sure he wanted to steer clear of her.

Zaid lifted his chin and turned his head in my direction. He then closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and shuddered on an exhale.

What the hell is that all about?

He opened his eyes and if I didn’t know any better I’d think he was looking right at me.

Impossible.
