Tell us a little about yourself.

This is an interesting question. Where to start? Let’s see. I’m a dog lover. I have three (and sometimes four, depending on if I have my mom’s dog with me). When I was younger I was more of a cat person, then I found my sweet boy, Frank, on the side of the road in a busy industrial area. He’s the love of my life. 🙂

I’m an introvert/extrovert. Really. I took a version of the Myers-Briggs personality test. It tells a person if she’s sensing or intuitive, thinking or feeling, introvert or extrovert, judging or perceiving.  I don’t remember all my results, but what struck me at the time, and what remains true today, is that I fell into the middle between introvert and extrovert. The implication is that a person who is in between the two is not more well-rounded, but instead, sometimes one way, sometimes another. In other words, confused. Ha! So true to this day. Sometimes I need to be around people to get my batteries charged, sometimes I need to be alone to get refreshed. Too much of one or the other (or too little) can put me in a funk.

I’m very close to my family. I’m a loyal and true friend. I know where everything in my house is and if I lose something I obsess about it till I find it. 🙂

Oh, and I write romance—contemporary and historical. It’s what I love to do more than anything in the world. I’ve been at it something like seven years and I’m so blessed to have discovered what I was meant to do.

What is your favorite indulgence (i.e. food or spa treatment or other)?

I often tell my friends, forget gardening, I am my hobby. I love to try new products and treatments for my skin, and I get facial peels a couple times a year. I’ve had micro-needling, and swear by it for the production of collagen and elasticity in your face and neck! I love going to the spa for facials (which relax me more than massages do), and hair treatments. I like having nice nails (since I have old-lady hands and was born with them!) and keep my nail and toe polish chip-free.  What can I say? I’m a girlie-girl.

What was the inspiration for Lover’s Leap?

Can you believe my sister woke up from a dream about two people who end up at their friend’s vacation home at the same time, and then fall for each other? Oh, and the heroine mistakenly assumes the hero is gay and dating the owner of the house.

The details are all me, though.

It took a while for me to narrow down the location for the story. I ultimately chose Tahoe because Tahoe is beautiful and I knew i could have fun introducing my readers to the surrounding areas, as well, like Truckee. The cliff I mention in the book, Lover’s Leap, the one the book is named after? It’s a real place. Also, Tahoe has recognizable landmarks—and that plays a part in the unfolding plot. The house itself was important, too. Many of the lake houses are magnificent, and the nicer they are, the more potentially private they can be. I wanted to get my hero and heroine alone and then watch the sparks fly. 🙂

What do you like most about your heroine, Candace?

I like her kindness. I like the way she manages to have a clear sense of values, but is at the same time non-judgmental, preferring to see the best in people till proven otherwise.

What’s next for you?

I’m excited to tell you I’ve contracted another book, this time a Victorian romance, with The Wild Rose Press. It will be released in early 2016. THE TROUBLE WITH TIGERS is the first of three in a series I call Hidden Treasure.

The treasure in each of the books is the heroine, or hero, depending. In TIGERS, my heroine has to go into hiding to thwart her guardian, and my hero inadvertently alerts her guardian to her location. Afterward, the two end up in a quote-unquote fake engagement. 🙂 I’ve sent along the cover to whet your appetite. The artist has captured my hero to a tee. Can you say Hottie??

After finding her fiancé in bed with another woman, Candace, a twenty-something, up-and-coming romance novelist takes off for a friend’s vacation home in Tahoe. The good news? She’ll share the place with fellow house guest, Logan, her best friend Eric’s latest lover. Except…

Logan, the nearly-irresistible-to-women photographer, isn’t Eric’s lover. Not now, not ever. He’s in Tahoe licking his own personal wounds, and before he’s allowed near Candace, he’s sworn off of her. No problem. Except…

There’s something about Candace. She’s not simply beautiful and enticingly off-limits. It’s in the way she doesn’t flirt with him. In the way she treats him like he isn’t a shallow pleasure-seeker. In the way, somehow, she brings peace to his world-weary soul.

Too bad she thinks he’s gay. But even if he can clear that hurdle, can he really entrust Candace’s heart to his own haphazard keeping?

Exhausted.  Soaked.  Muddy.  Hair plastered to his forehead, blinding him.  He dug his elbows into gravel and dragged himself further away from the drop off, then rolled onto his back and closed his eyes.  He would definitely lecture Candace.  Just let him catch his breath first.

“Logan, are you all right?” Candace demanded, not content to wait for him to recover his strength.  She crawled onto his chest and put her ice cold hands on either side of his face, pushing his hair out of his eyes.  “Logan, answer me.”

Logan cracked his eyes open and studied her.  Her fair hair was soaking wet and plastered to her skin.  Water droplets slid down her cheeks, and off her nose.

“You told me you were safe, you silly man,” she half-yelled, half-sobbed.  “You’re lucky your car stopped where it did instead of crashing into the gorge.”

Shivers racked her slight frame.  Was she frightened?  Cold?  He lifted one exhausted arm and swiped her hair back from her cheeks.  “Let’s get you home,” he said.

For a moment she stared at him with the blankest expression—then laughter burst from her lips.  “You’re crazy.”

“I’m crazy?  You just took a joy ride in the middle of a tropical storm.”

She sat back on his stomach and just smiled at him.  A big beautiful smile that lit up her whole face.  Something warm and wonderful filled Logan’s chest and he did the only thing he could do at that moment.  Grasping her nape with one hand, and her shoulder with the other, he dragged her down and kissed her.

Kimberly Keyes knew before she was old enough to drive, writing was her passion.  Specifically, writing romance. Once she got up the courage to start typing, she never looked back—although some of her earlier works will never get further than underneath her bed!

She writes single title contemporary and historical romance, Victorian era, and is most comfortable working on two books in the two different genres, simultaneously.

The bulk of her time she spends writing, and re-writing, plotting, and dreaming up ways to perplex the characters living inside her head.

She’s lucky to have the unswerving support of her family, and most especially her two faithful companions, Pappillon, a twenty pound rescue puppy from Puerto Rico, and Frank, a.k.a. “President of the Black Dog Club,” also a rescue.  The two are constantly by her side offering love and encouragement, and occasionally demanding chewies.

LOVER’S LEAP, a contemporary romance, is her first published book.  THE TROUBLE WITH TIGERS, a victorian romance will be released soon, too! Both books are published by The Wild Rose Press.
