Now enjoy this quick interview with Olivia.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I love traveling, but I’d rather travel to see a forest than a city. My favorite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle used to be Donatello, but now it’s Raphael. My favorite colors are cobalt blue, royal purple, and emerald green. My first crush was on Aquaman from the Superfriends. I like Firefly in moderation, which is theoretically not possible. The Sorting Hat would put me in Gryffindor, but I love Severus Snape anyway. I have a passionate fondness for apple pie.

What is your favorite indulgence (i.e. food or spa treatment)?

I indulge myself far too often and lavishly! My favorite food is my own secret recipe for butterscotch oatmeal pecan coconut cookies. I start with the basic recipe on the round Quaker Oatmeal box, but then I start tinkering, adjusting all the levels to get just the right balance between moist and firm cookies given all the extra ingredients I put in them.

To pamper myself in a low calorie way, I like to go to the nail salon and get a French manicure with gel polish. It looks neat and clean, lasts forever, and makes me feel extra feminine. While I’m there I like to chatter with the lady who does my nails; we discuss everything from movies to politics to dogs to the neighbors… all kinds of fun girl gossip.

My favorite self-pampering, though, would have to be gardening. I love to buy flowering plants, and I have a hard time saying ‘no’ to a beautiful blossom! It makes for a lot of watering during the summertime.

What inspired you to write Her Heart’s Liege?

My love for medieval literature and culture mingled with my feminist leanings and inspired me to write a tale about a strong, self-determining female fighter in that culture. Alex would not have existed in reality.   The nearest analog is the French Joan of Arc, who was reluctantly tolerated due to her religious zeal (and wound up being burned at the stake by the British for her daring). Alex has a better fate than that in store, and she doesn’t have to stay a virgin, either. 😉

What do you like most about your heroine, Alex Bonham?

I like how Alex’s character mingles contradictions and makes sense of them. She’s tough but sensitive, self-aware but with the occasional blind spot, liberated and lusty but capable of prudence. Like all of us, Alex has to find her balance between the forces of conflict within her own nature as she also comes to terms with the conflicts around her. I like how she’s usually able to achieve satisfaction on her own terms, and how she’s able to recover and keep going even when she encounters disappointment.

What’s next for you?

I’ve just submitted the manuscript for my next novel to my publisher! It’s a smoking hot romance about a reluctant incubus, one of the sexiest things I’ve ever written. Not your standard demonic seducer, Fredric is a computer hardware engineer who’s a geek and a science fiction fan at heart. However, his incubus nature forces him to consume sexual pleasure to survive, which he does in dreams so as not to draw attention to himself. After he becomes too attached to one of his victims, an ancient vendetta forces Fredric out of the shadows and into the open, where he must own up to his actions and fight to save the love of his life using any means necessary. Look for it early in summer 2016 from Rogue Phoenix Press!

Tomboy Alex Bonham has fought her male peers tooth and nail to prove herself worthy to become captain of the king’s guard. When her country is invaded by Danes, she is ordered to take the king’s younger son, a charming but irresponsible rake, away from the front lines for safekeeping.

Alex walks a difficult line, trying to balance her growing attraction to Prince Holden with her dedication to duty and her responsibility to keep him safe from robbers, Danes…and even himself. But when they are drawn into the struggle to defend East Anglia from occupation, both the prince and his captain must grow. Can spoiled Prince Holden evolve into a good man who could lead the kingdom–one Alex can trust with her heart?

“I make you nervous.” The corner of Prince Holden’s mouth quirked up, self-deprecating.

Alexandra didn’t try to deny the truth. “You do. Any time someone treats me like prey, I get uneasy.”

He didn’t attempt denial. “I don’t usually pursue women.”

“No, they jump into your bed all by themselves.” She gave him a wry stare.

He shrugged, equally off-hand. “Near enough.”

“Then all you have to do is find a bed and wait. I want no part of it.”

“I’m tired of prey that doesn’t put up a struggle.” She could see something almost weary in the set of his shoulders.

She raised a brow at him. She’d believe him on a cold day in Hell.

He shrugged and shifted uncomfortably. “Serving girls and barmaids are all very well and good for a night’s pleasure, but they have nothing to offer afterward. All the ladies at court are shallow and dull.” He pulled a wry face. “I’d rather court a girl with something to her. Like you.”

Alex resisted the desire to squirm uncomfortably under his warm regard. “The problem with me,” his brow furrowed, “is that everything has always been too easy.” He leaned toward her, intent. She could sense how important this was to him.

He reached out and touched her cheek lightly with his fingertips. “But you aren’t easy at all, and I find I quite like it.”
