New Release: Riding The Odds by Lynda K. Scott

RIDING-THE-ODDSLynda K. Scott is here to tell us about her new Sci-Fi Romance, Riding The Odds. But first enjoy this quick interview with Lynda.

Tell us a little about yourself.

Hi everyone! I’ve been a computer operator/programmer for a local college, a Girl Scout troop leader and Camp Crafter, a dance mom and, lately, a gourmet cook (well, gourmet for us anyway!). I’ve taught the principals of creative writing and I’ve written short stories in addition to novel length fiction. For a while, I was a professional contestant in any writing contest where my work would fit. I have one very fluffy alien kitten, Wookie, and one darling Golden Retriever, Skye, who I’m training to do therapy dog work.

What draws you to write paranormal/fantasy?

Everything about paranormal or fantasy or, as I like to call it, Science Fantasy where things that go bump in the night could be the friendly alien critter as much as a ghost or ESPer draws me and my very weird imagination. One of the reasons I love it is that there are no boundaries. You can open up your mind and let it absorb every odd thing between here and there then spew it back out as a novel.

What was the inspiration for Riding The Odds?

I’m currently celebrating the release of RIDING THE ODDS, a Science Fiction romance about a female spaceship captain, Tara Rowen,  and the Holy Knight who thinks she has a way to find his missing sister. But even more, it’s about the Rider life form that lives in and on Tara. Zie, the Rider, manifests in what appears to be a dragon tattoo and she has a mother/child/friend relationship with Tara.  The story was inspired by a tattoo I saw and, believe it or not, my alien kitten, Wookie. The tattoo was a dragon, very artistic and with large expressive eyes, going around a young woman’s arm. I immediately wondered what would happen if the tat was actually alive. Then I wondered what kind of personality it would have. Wookie jumped to mind with her imperious but loving, curious, stand offishness, bravery. Most of that just seemed to be Zie.

What do you like most about Tara, the heroine in Riding The Odds?

Tara is an indendent woman who will do whatever it takes to protect those she loves. She’s survived a tragedy where she lost her parents, a devious and selfish villain who blamed her and her friends for a heinous murder, a life on the edge between law and lawlessness but she’s never lost her essential honesty. Of course, Zie won’t let her. She’s sort of like a voice of conscience. What’s next for you? I’m working on Book 2, then Book 3 in my Rider universe that features the two guys who became like brothers to Tara as she grew up. The first will be Drummer, a charming but rough and tumble ice jockey, and the third will be Jackson, who has become wealthy after they went their own way.

She thought her past was behind her.

She was wrong.

Spaceship captain Tara Rowan has her secrets. One is her Rider, Zie—an organic symbiote, like a living tattoo—that enhances Tara’s physical abilities. But Zie is no ordinary Rider, and Tara can never risk anyone discovering Zie’s true origins. Especially not the sexily dangerous stranger who appears out of nowhere and makes Tara’s pulse race…

Except that “Trace Munroe” isn’t exactly who he says he is. He’s in fact a Holy Knight, who does everything by the book, and Tara is his only lead in tracking down a kidnapped princess. And Trace will do whatever it takes to get that information—including blackmail. But a blazing attraction to Tara is definitely complicating things…especially when Trace realizes that following his code of honor means destroying the woman he’s falling for.

SPECIAL PRICING: For the first week of its release, RIDING THE ODDS will be priced at $1.99. Get it before the special ends!
