Tell us about your journey to publication.

This is a pretty long story, and one I am actually writing about in bits and pieces as part of my NaNoWriMo book, “A Cheater’s Guide to NaNoWriMo.” To cut to the chase, let me just say that I wrote several novels during NaNoWriMo, though none of them quite ended up as fully-finished manuscripts. What finally got me to a finished novel was participating in the 3-Day Novel Contest in 2011. I finished my first novel, Ninjas of the 512, in just three days, and after several rounds of editing, I self-published the book. After that, I returned to my Naked Montreal manuscript, which had been sitting on my hard drive for a while, and managed to finish parts one and two during NaNoWriMo 2012, and released them both in 2013. I’ve been hooked on self-publishing ever since, and learning lots of new things about the process every day.

What is your favorite indulgence (food or spa treatment or other)?

My favorite indulgence is definitely dark chocolate, although I’m also a bit of a coffee snob too, so even though I only drink coffee once a day (if that), I always insist it be the best I can afford.

Describe a typical day in your life as a writer.

There’s no typical day as a writer! I work from home, which means I usually end up having about half a dozen projects on the go at all times, whether that means paying gigs or personal projects, and I do try to cram in as much writing time as possible. Now that it’s November and National Novel Writing Month is upon us, I feel even more obligated to crank out some words on a daily basis and keep up with all my fellow novelists!

Tell us about the Naked Montreal series.

Naked Montreal was inspired by my time as a sex columnist in Montreal. I had tons of great stories to tell, but only a weekly column in which to tell them, so naturally I had a lot that didn’t make it to print. After the paper folded, I decided to write them all down, but since fiction is a lot more fun, I created characters that would help me tell lots of different tales about what sex is like in the “Sin City of the North,” and showcase some of the differences — as I see them — between Montrealers and Americans when it comes to sex, sensuality and really all of life’s pleasures.

What’s next for you?

I’m currently working on my NaNoWriMo book, “A Cheater’s Guide to NaNoWriMo,” which explains why I’ve taken up “cheating” in November, as well as tracing my journey from novelist wannabe to published author. I’m also finishing up a book called “Confessions of a 3-Day Novelist,” which is another nonfictional book where I explain how I wrote a novel in three days — and which will teach others to do the same. And, of course, there are always more Naked Montreal stories to write!

Now let’s hear about Naked Montreal

If you haven’t developed a fetish yet, don’t worry – by the time Frankie bids you adieu, you may have a hard time choosing a favorite!

My date for tonight, an overstuffed businessman with slicked-back hair in a greasy little ponytail and a vaguely Bronx accent, is so chuffed to be here with a beautiful woman that he’s practically salivating over my white flesh, my smooth black hair, my pouty red lips.

Little does he realize, I’m just the appetizer. The main course is on her way, ready to beat him into submission. She goes by the name Lady Evelyn, but I’ve never seen any evidence of her title’s origins. I keep getting texts from her that say she’s on her way, which usually means she’ll be fifteen minutes late. I’ve got to keep the Catch wriggling on the line for a few more minutes, until she shows.

I finally receive a text from Lady Evelyn announcing her arrival, and swiftly draw our meal to a close as the Consultant inhales the last bits of mungfish left on the plate. I casually gesture for the check, and he signs off on our decadent feast with a look of pure evil in his eyes. I stand up, as if headed for the ladies’ room.

“Meet me in back in five minutes,” I whisper in his ear.

His eyes widen, and a smirk creeps across his face. Showtime.
