Entering the Grey

I gave in and bought the book everyone seems to be talking about – 50 Shades of Grey.  Yes, I know, I’m late to the party again, but I’m not one to jump in just because everyone else is doing it.

When I found out the book had some/a lot BDSM in it, I was put off. Don’t get me wrong – I love, love, LOVE to read erotica (duh, I write it!). I can read pretty much anything. The steamier the better as far as I’m concerned. But the whole whips, chains and candle wax thing doesn’t appeal to me so I don’t actively seek books with those elements. If they’re in the story, I don’t run for the hills and have even read a few where it was well used and it ended up being a turn-on. I’ll admit it.

A good author can do that.

50 Shades was a very big surprise for me. I really liked the book. The BDSM was minimal and what little there was, I felt like was NOT the focus – the reaction of the character was the focus. The things going on in her head and how she felt about what he was doing to her was the focus.

And, well, let’s face it. A great deal of the act of sex goes on your head.

As much as I hate to admit it, I am completely on this band-wagon. 50 Shades is a very good book and I’m anxious to get the second.
